New Hope, New Promise

It appears there is some light for our hope in Canwetalkaboutit. The growing program developed in Chicago is called "Theology on Tap". It came to Pennsylvania through efforts in Lancaster and expanded to Kutztown via the Young Adult group at Maidencreek CHurch in Kutztown.

A group of interested people, primarily UCC clergy, are working to develop a program of this nature in the Reading Area. The essential premise is to provide a vehicle for civil discussion and dialogue on critical issues and this parallels the goals expressed by our group at Albright in the Can We Talk About It exploration and website.

The key is that these discussions are handled in an adult manner over a beverage of choice in an environment where varying views can be comfortably expressed and explored. We have already started developing a list of interesting issues along with solid suggestions on dynamic speakers to bring background and light to these subjects.

Our tentative goal is a series of monthly sessions on the 4th Thursday night of each month at a convenient location in the Reading Area. We hope to be able to start the Reading Theology on Top in February.

Meetings continue

The WHYY program at the Goggle was quite good and covered some touchy matters like race and immigration. During the public portion we mentioned our efforts with Canwetalkaboutit and there was considerable interest. Tomorrow we are schedule to discuss this with a reporter from the Reading Eagle.

Progress Slow

No matter how difficult it may seem, patience is the order in this effort. It would be nice to find immediate acceptance and shared enthusiasm but that is not realistic. At this point we are exploring and revisiting our motivations and interests in making something worthy of this.

We welcome other voices and minds and hope to gather impetus and direction as we meet and share and why we care and what we may accomplish.

Meeting

A very successful meeting was held again at Albright and the exchange was frank and held much promise. We have added to the working team and other names have been proposed. We will continue to work on the Website and to seek alliances and links with other groups with similar interests.

Another meeting is set for the chaplain's office on the campus on Apri 11th at 10AM. The team would enjoy hearing from you and would welcome your participation.
